driver side mirror

Hi. My driver side view mirror - power, lost its locking mechanism. The mirror moves loosely and cannot stay in one position. What happen, per my 16 y/o son was he tried moving the mirror towards the vehicle and heard a popping sound. I took the bottom 3 screws from the housing unit and also from the doors. I could see the ball bearing inside the housing unit of the mirror as well as the 2 plates that locks the mirror together. When I tried pulling the plate that is connected to the mirror, it seems that the locking mechanism is loose. Here are my questions: Do i need to change the whole housing unit or can i take it apart and see if i can fix the spring in the unit. Or, if i need to buy a unit, how do i change it. thank you for your help.

It need to be replace as unit you must remove the inner door panel to replace the mirror here is a guide to walk you through and instructions on you car below.


Removal & Installation
Remove door inside trim panel. Door inner trim panel may include speaker. If necessary, disconnect speaker harness connector. Disconnect power mirror motor harness connector. Support outside mirror assembly while removing mirror retaining bolts/nuts on inside of door. To install, reverse removal procedure.

I need some help knowing how to replace the driver side side view mirror. I'm not sure which panel to remove on the inside of the door or how to do that.

If you open the door, locate a triangular shape panel cover to the mirror. Pop that cover and you will see (usually) 3 screws/bolts holding the mirror onto the door. Remove the screws/bolts, unclip the wiring connector, and old mirror is out. Install is reverse.

If so, how do i do that?

How long should the job take a non-mechanic.

If you cant access the retaining bolts, yes. Look carefully for screws, should be a couple on door handle. Most panels are held on with push retainers.If you use a wide flat blade of some kind you can pop them out of the door. Be careful not to rip the door panel, only pry out clips right at them not in between them. Shouldnt take too long for a non-mechanic

Hi my toyota sienna driver side cross swivel stopped working recently and now just "flops" in the wind. How can I fix this?

The internal mecham=nism seems to have gone bad and most probably you need to replace the mirror assy, unless you are adventurous enough to try dissembling to see if it can be repaired.
