We just purchased a 2000 Toyota Sienna from a private party 2 weeks ago. Decided to take it into a Dealer to have a window switch replaced and they identified an internal engine knock, poss connecting rod bearing. They said it was OK to drive the car home (67 miles) and gave me no restrictions on driving it, so I did the speed limit on the Expressway. The car drove fine, including using the cruise control.
When we purchased the vehilce there was a ticking sound under the hood. I asked my husband and he said that was nothing to worry about. The car has a beautiful interior and exterior, and drives beautifully, so needless to say, I am in total shock over this news!
I have scheduled an appointment with a local mechanic to get a second opinion. If he concurs with the dealers diagnosis would it better to have the engine repaired or have the entire engine replaced?
What wouold be reasonable cost estimates for each.
Thanks for your help!
