OBD II is applicable for 96 onwards and there are various standards for the testers.
I believe you have a typo error and you wish to ask what is used for pre 96?
Retrieving trouble codes are via OBD I scanners or manually retrieving them with the aid of jumper wires bridging the diagnostic terminals and counting the CEL blinking with ignition turned on.
