timing 1985 toyota truck 2wd 22r

Replaced distributor without marking it before removing. Installed new one after finding tdc and all that but, when i time it at 5 degrees btdc with vacuum lines plugged, it increases in degrees when i install the vacuum lines to distributor.

The disributor uses ported vacuum meaning the vacuum should come from above the throttle plate-my guess is, you are using intake manifold vacuum ( full vacuum )That's what causing it to advance when plugged back in.

When you pull the throttle back this is where you get the vacuum advance needed.
