1997 Toyota Pickup pulleys

for the sake of confusion we will refer the pulley attached to the harmonic balancer and crank shaft as the main pulley.

you say it looks misaligned? is it turning? remember its turning fast and may look like its still.

is that turning just nothing else?

do they turn by hand with the belt on? off? belt tight?

Thanks for asking. The crankshaft pulley does not turn while the engine is runnig. With all 3 belts still attached with tension on them, I can turn the pulley by hand with the engine off. I can look at the pulley thru the wheel well and see that it is not square or plumb with the block. It angles up(because of the tension on the belts)...Larger gap towards the bottom of the pulley. The truck starts right up,sounds fine, no knocks,leaks,noises,etc. I don`t let it run more than a few seconds(30 ?)

i would take off the oil pan so i coudl get a look up in there and see exactly what is wrong, something is broken and youll have to do that to see what it is.

first make sure the crankshaft pulleys bolt on the inside is tight and that the key is inside the grove on the pulley and not missing. theres two special tools used to remove the pulley.

do this first before droping the oil pan.
