I went to have the truck looked at and alldata called for 2 hours of labor to replace the front crank seal. I would have paid $145 to have it replaced. Is it really that hard or take that long? What do I need to do to get this job done?

Hi there,
This will take about 1 hr, and as the radiator will have to be removed there will be coolant to replace as well. so the 2 hrs dose sound a bit long.

mark you are crazy. the front seal can be replaced in about 30-45 minutes. all you have to do is take the nut off the balance wheel and pull 5 12mm bolts from around the oil pump and its off. new seal costs around 12 bucks. be careful not to get the pump out of time. it is a gear driven pump

Well mate,

I give my advice with the thought that those asking have little or no knowledge of what their attempting, (why would they ask in the first place?) So i would prefer to make it as safe as possible and with out the risk of doing any further damage. So removing the radiator is no big deal, I would prefer them to do that rather than damage the core. Often they don't have access to correct tooling as well, they don't have the knowledge that we in the trade have acquired over many years, yes short cuts are great but simple & safe first for me with any advice.
