1992 Toyota MR2 car reves

My MR2 has been revving continuously, even when I have it in neutral, it reves. When I put it in first gear, it reves, and while I'm trying to put it in second gear, it continues to rev. What could the problem be please. I live in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area of PA and am looking for a reputable inexpensive car repair guy within the area. Any places recommended?

There are a few things you can check.
You need to check for vacuum links in the air intake tube, it could have a crack or hole letting air.

Remove pvc valve and check the spring to make sure it is still closing properly. If the spring is broken or weak it will allow extra air into the system and cause problems.

Idle air control valve may need to be cleaned or replaced.

Idle air controll motor can also be a source of the problem.
