2006 Toyota Matrix Brake failure with cruise control on

I was driving on the Interstate at 60 mph with the cruise control on. When I started to exit I found I had no brakes. The exit road is down hill and while I try to control the car I tried the brakes several more time to no effect. After hitting a median strip, down shifting and using the hand brake I brought the car to a halt and turned off the ignition. When I tried the brakes, they appeared normal.

I had the car towed to the Portland (Maine) Toyota dealer who had 5 days before serviced the car, issued a Maine State Safety inspection sticker. and rotated the tires. The time of the accident was the first time I had used the cruise control since the servicing. Toyota said they could find nothing wrong.

What a ride I would definatly need new boxers. Did cruise shut off when brake pedal depressed? Pedal go to floor? firm but no stopping? Dealer code brake and traction controll systems? Thinking someting in traction module or ABS released brak pressure thinking all wheels in skid? going to be tough without codes.

I didn't notice if the cruise control shut off, but the car did slow down after hitting the flat road. The pedal did go to the floor with no resistance. The service manager at Portland Toyota doesn't know what you mean by " Dealer code brake and traction control systems. Car did not skid.

Car was not part of a recall.

What they should do is hook diagnostic scanner to ABS-traction system check components and for Diagnostic Trouble Codes

I asked about computer read outs when I asked about codes. Service manager said they only show up if there is a problems. I sense he is rather defensive and won't be of much help.

You could call Toyota USA should be 800 number in owners manual. Assume another dealer is far away. Ask for area service rep. to meet you at dealer. OBDII computers have memory history codes would be present. Bottom line is no brakes dangerous and no reason would make me not to happy to drive. See if this service manager will use your car for a week .

Shortly after the accident I call Toyota. They sent an area rep to the dealer, but despite several unreturned calls asking to meet with him he came and went before I could catch up with him. On Friday I got a letter from Toyota saying they could find nothing wrong and could not be of any further help.

Can data on the on broad computer be erased?
Can some one other than a dealer have access to the codes?

Using Google I've found two similar cases to mine; both involving Audi. Any way to find out if their cruise controls are the same as Toyota's?

Yes data can be erased and may have common practice any shop with proper equipment can scan but if erased fault will have to occure again.

Can you tell if data has been erased? Can it be selectively erased?
