My Landcruiser blew a head gasket and my mechanic told me that the car needs a new engine. He's showing interest in buying it because he found a used engine to put in it. The car was garage kept, so there's no rust, a few little scratches and dings. The engine only had 72k miles on it. I just put 4 new tires on it, has runners, grille guard, moon roof, roof rack and CD player. Since the engine is dead, how much is the car worth. He's offering $500-$1000 for it. Is it worth more than that?

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

I think your mechanic is trying to take advantage of you, a blown head gasket is not normally a new engine, this can be repaired fairly easily, and the car would be worth a lot more even with a faulty head, i would go get a quote from another work shop to do the head, then make your mind up what you want to do.

What if with the Head Gasket blown, a considerable amount of fluid gets into the engine to render some cylinders from working. I believe the V6 was running on 4 cylinders.

The bottom end will be unaffected by this, the heads are repairable, but its your decision, if it was mine i would be getting the heads done, i do them regularly on may makes and models in my business, its no big deal, but it's your car, i can only advise.

Had my LandCruiser head gasket done for 800-900.00 dollars. Get oem parts and replace all the hoses. go to Ih8mud.com and look for head gasket repair.
