I need front struts and have estimates from the Toyota dealer and and independent repair garage. Estimates are pretty close so I would like to know if I am better off sticking with the OEM parts or if it is actually better to buy the after market Monroe SensaTracks, which the independent garage is recommending. I liked the ride of my Highlander up until the struts started to deteriorate so I don't want to change the feel of the ride.

Thank you.

Ok this is a matter of opinion but here is the best answer I can give. The manufacture of the OEM strut is KYB now a lot of parts stores do sell KYB as an option or some as there main source. Like Carquest sells KYB as there main brand. Now Monroe is a good strut too and is sold by Napa and O'reilys. Now if you like you ride and don't want any change then go KYB if you don't mind a good competive strut then go Monroe they both will have a lifetime warranty. Now do keep in mind that struts wear over time so when you put in new struts they are instant fix and tighten the suspension up a great deal so you find the ride will improve either way. I like KYB myself I hope this helps.

To clarify further, I'm wondering if I should just go to the dealership and replace with OEM. Price seems to be very close, so that is not an issue.

If the price is very close then yes just have the dealer install them and make sure they align it too and enjoy.
