I just replaced the head gasket for a second time on my 89 Cressida -a well known problem. Again I am having problems with the EGR valve. Lat time I was able to pull it off and clean it with carb cleaner. I hooked up a vaccum pump to open the valve and could clean it out. This time I did the same thing before reinstalling the valve. However, instead of opening up the valve made a chattering sound and a the carb cleaner only trickled through. Foolishly I went ahead and and put it back in but not after asking a few people for advice. During the preliminary smog test it became clear that it was not opening when an independent vacuum was applied, or there was a clog at the valve's intake side of the engine. Also, the regulator hooked up to the valve did not put out vacuum to the EGR valve. Do I have an defective EGR valve? Is there a way to try to clean the EGR regulator?
Thank you
Thank you
