My car was given to me with a bad running motor, i was told to buy a fuel pump for it. So i did. now where does it go in the fuel tank? And could this be my problem,

Do you hear the fuel pump come on when key at run position?
About the fuel pump some are in the tank(Remove fuel tank) and Earlier models could be mounted at the rear of the vehicle on the frame rail outside the gas tank
