2004 Toyota Corolla Car stalling after oil change

2004 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I changed my oil yesterday...I switched over to synthetic for the first time (car has 80K miles). Today, I noticed that when I let up on accelerator and then accelerate again...the car stalls. Then after about driving 10 miles, the check engine light came on when it was stalling. (stalling = it jerks before accelerating normally). I think my switch to synthetic oil has something to do with it..but I dont know what to do? I'm not a car person..and just learned how to do my own oil change...please help

HI there,

start with a scan for any unresolved fault codes, i doubt that the oil change has any bearing on the problem, short of you knocking a vacuum line or disturbing an electrical connection.

No, I was not aware of any recall on the 04 Corolla. What was the recall and how do you believe this effects the stalling/jerking of the car?

can't see a re call that would cover this, but one of the TSB may cover this, my college may have some inside info on this one.

sorry for the dumb questions but what is a TSB? and what is the "college" you're refering to? again sorry for dumb questions...but I just want to get this fixed as soon as i can...thanks for your help

TSB (technical service bulletin) and i am referring to mmprince being another moderator on this site, he mentioned the re call, so i am wondering if he is aware of some TSB that may cover this problem.

A TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin that are created for any manufacturer for a problem with a car that becomes common. It includes procedures on what the problem is, how to diagnose, and how to fix.

So I went to an autozone and they did a diagnostic code test and it came to be code P0741, Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit performer or stuck off...some one at the store told me that it was something with my transmission. so i went home and checked my transmission fluid and it completely empty...i dont know how this is possible (it's not leaking)? I added a quart of transmission fluid..

i guess my question is does my entire transmission need to be changed or can these parts be changed?

Hi there,

The solenoid can be replaced easily, i would get a trans specialist to do this and investigate the oil loss as well.

The initial recall was for '09-10 Corolla for the gas pedal, but they have a TSB for the P0741 code.

Reference Number (s): TC008-04, Date of Issue: November 22, 2004 2004-2005: TOYOTA Corolla (1ZZ-FE) SECTION: TRANSMISSION & CLUTCH
Related Ref Number (s): TC008-04.

So have Toyota repair it.
