2002 Toyota Corolla hood latch

My hood latch is extended therefore not allowing the hood to raise to safelt stage. I tried pulling the latch from the inside with pliers but no luck. any suggestions... I'm trading the car in next month and do not want to put the money out to fix it. Thanks
