When I bought the car the front end shook at speed, through steering wheel. Balanced tires and that improved matters. Tires were bad so I just purchased 4 new tires for the vehicle and did an alignment.

Car drives 100% better, no shaking, until I break, especially at speed. When I break at speeds over about 30 mph, I get a noticable shake through steering wheel which feels like it is coming from the front wheel.

What do you think is causing?

Most likely a rotor is warped. Remove them, take to shop and have them turned, if warped they will not (generally) be able to turn them.

Also check calipers, make sure the slide pins are moving freely and inspect brake pads for unusual wear.

If brakes check out OK, then do this:

Raise car, put on stands. Grasp tire and push/pull both horizontally and vertically, if any movement then possible wheel bearing, ball joint, tie rod, control arm bushing.

Check CV boots for any signs of leakage or cuts/rips in rubber boot.
