I have just had my front brakes repaired and I am experiencing a grinding sound when I apply my brakes and when I release them. I have not heard this sound before. The repairman has checked them and says there is no problem. With the exception of the noise they seem to be working fine. My girlfriend also is having the same problem with her front brakes (Toyota Matrix 2003) that she just had repaired from the same repairman. Could you explain why the grinding noises in the brakes if everything has been replaced and is working properly?

When pads are put on the rotors should be turned or replaced is necessary.

If rotor surface is not smooth, the brakes will make noise.

Other possibilities are they were installed wrong or the wrong pad was used, slide pins are binding, but they should not grind.

Inspect rotors for grooves and pads for premature wear.
