Previous owner of my corolla removed the original air filter housing/pipes etc and replaced it with a K&N cotton filter with Induction pipe.

I have just had my engine re-built and all the mechanics were complaining that the cone filter is too porous and it would quickly lead to engine wear. Is this true?

I have been to every single scrap yard in town and simply cannot find the original housing.

Is there any advice one can give?

Is there any other car that has a similar housing, which i can modify to fit?

These are the car specs:

K&N filters do flow more air, but I doubt they would cause any damage to engine (if cleaned and oiled regularly).
Having said that, the installers will blame the filter for any future damage, weather the filter is cause or not.

You can order replacement parts from Toyota, or keep looking at junk yards, maybe try internet auction sites.

Also look at 94 Geo Prizm, which are mechanically identical to Corolla.

Thanks for the info....

When you say oiled, do you mean i should spray engine oil on the filter?

Excuse the ignorance, but what is a 94 Geo Prizm? Don't think we get those here....

K&N sells a recharge kit, which includes a cleaning solution and a bottle of their oil, which you spray ON THE FILTER, not in/on your engine :) This oil helps trap incoming debris.

Toyota Corolla's are made in CA at the N.U.M.M.I. (New United Motor Mafufacturing Inc.) plant.
From 1989 to 97 or 98, so was the Geo Prizm, which is a Corolla re-badged as a Geo (sold by Chevy dealers). They are mechanically identical, just slightly different body style and interior.
So, mechanically the parts are interchanceable with the same model year Corolla and Prizm.
Use a search engine and search "NUMMI", very interesting story.
