Transmission problem
1993 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 260kms miles

I have trans fluid dripping out of my trans where the axle goes into the trans. I think its the seal. Could you tell me how to replace that seal? Can I just pull it out after getting the axle out or do I have to take off the transmission case cover to get to that seal? Any help would be great. Thanks!

HI there,

This is just a knock in seal, remove the drive shaft and you can access the seal with out removing any other item.

Make sure you refill the differential fluid to proper level after changing seal.

Thanks for the reply mark. Im not sure if I was clear about the car being a front wheel drive. Someone else wrote me and talked about the differential, which would be obviously rear wheel. So does what you told me still apply to front wheel drive?

Hi there,

You do have a differential, but it is Incorporated with in the transmission case, you will have to re fill the transmission oil level, so mmprince is just making sure that you do remember to check this level when the job is done, Mr Toyota dose a tricky thing here, with autos they have a separate diff oil to the transmission on the front wheel drives, but the manuals have shared oil, be aware that when you remove the shaft you will loose a good quantity of oil so i would be a good idea to drain the trans and re fill with fresh oil when done.
