1991 Toyota Corolla engine hesitates and stumbles at differ

well this seemed to happen rather quickly not over time . the car is hesitating or stumbling now ,it seems to have a gargling sound now. its not all the time though,when you step on it good it happens but after you get it going and let off the throttle and sort of ride it the engine goes back to normal and even lets you gas it some times alittle with out problems then on till you hit it harder again. i changed the fuel filter,plugs,air filter,and cleaned the injectors. there is an after market intake and muffler and there has been exhaust leaks for almost a year that has not affected before.i believe there is an after market intake that does not have an egr valve,so i dont think its an egr issue. any ideas

First thing to check is fuel pressure with mechanical gauge, then spark, look for blue snapping spark.

Spark problem could be coil or ignitor.

how bright should they be at night? and the last one to the right doesnt seem to be sparking like the others unless its close to one of the wires. i dont really know but they seem like thy ought to be brighter to me but i wouldnt really know.

Spark should be blue and "snap", anything else (red color) is considered no spark.

Make sure the plug is grounded properly.

while checking the spark in daylight there seems to be blue and orange[red] in the spark. what should i replace first. a coil is much cheaper then an igniter and i really dont have extra cash to go buy an ohm meter to test them. if you cant reasonablly say i guess i will go get one. what do you think? also is this doing harm to my motor if i drive it?

I would replace coil first.

On the 4AFE engine it is actually cheaper to get the entire dist. w/ignitor, rather than ignitor itself.

You can also go to a junk yard and get parts, look for a 90-92 Corolla or Geo Prizm.

If you find a doner car remove the two fuse/relay boxes in engine compartment, they contain fuses and relays that are very expensive.
