Need to get my smog done but the exhaust manifold is cracked...it has passed in the past, even with crack. The car was parked (with no mechanical problems other than the exhaust crack) February 2006 after buying a new car...Now want to give the Corolla to my 16 y.o. son. Put in new battery, changed oil, air filter looks brand new tires like new timing belt Feb 2005. Car started up immediately no smoke, brakes feel good.

Should I replace the manifold before I go for my smog test?
And,
Where should I look to get a cheap replacement?

Yes, replace the exhaust manifold. Exhaust gas leaks can burn coolant hoses, wiring, alt. a lot of things.

Buy replacement at most autoparts stores and get new gasket. Manifold is held in place by three studs and two bolts. If you reuse the bolts, spray them with PB Blaster the night before.

The manifold is also braced at bottom, so remove the manifold to brace bolt.
