I have a 1989 toyota corolla that has 145,000 miles on it and when it goes from 30 miles an hour to 40 miles an hour, it jerks, as if the transmission is slipping. It is an automatic 3 speed. It has no over drive and it has no cruise control. It does not do it all the time, it only does it some times. Some days it will not do it at all and some days it will do it all day long. I don't have an RPM's needle, so I don't know what the RPM's are doing when it jerks.

Hi dbdsupvic,

You need to verify if it is the engine or transmission that is causing the jerking.

Misfiring of the engine can result in the jerking as well.

For transmission, check the fluid level and condition. Ensure the throttle pressure cable is adjusted correctly.

For engine, check the spark plugs and related parts, eg, plug wire, distributor cap and rotor. Check the fuel filter for clogging.
