I have asked my mechanic to change the PCV valve when I have a tune-up. He keeps telling me that it isn't necessary. I have also asked him to check the emission hoses and replace them some look old and inflexible. Now I am having performance and idle problems with the car and the air filter is full of oil. Did this ruin the motor or is there a hope of recovery?

Hi saprice,

Sorry to telll you that car engines don't have any Botox equivalent. Once the engine is old, blowby would definitely increase so the presence of oil at the filter . A new PCV would not be of any use, it goes back to the manifold, not the air filter.

Hardened emission hoses are not a problem if they don't leak or gets clogged.

If performance of an engine drops too much or idling is poor, it might just be a tuning problem. Find out the cause of these before you come to any conclusion.
