BONNET RELEASE CABLE

My Toyota Celica's bonnet release cable has gone all funny!

The bonnet will no longer close, the cable is very stiff and I cannot pull it from the inside more than a cm or so.

I cannot even see where the cable goes in the engine to lubricate. If anyone can shed any light on how to make the catch latch again would be grateful.
I have already lubricated the catch!

Try this...take a strong screwdriver and see if you can push down on the latch as if you were trying to close the hood. See if it is struck/broken.
On most Toyotas you should be able to unbolt the latch from the car inspect it for damage/wear. The cable is attached to this unit and should also be inspected.
