Electrical problem
1991 Toyota Celica 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 130000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
hi, hopefully someone can help me!!! today when i was driving home from work in the snow i noticed my voltage meter went all the way to 18vts and the lights got brighter. also the battery light came on and then would start to blink. this only happened when i was accelerating, and not when i was going 10-20 miles an hour. someone told me it may be the alternator going bad, and from what i've read in my owners manual it seems the recharging system needs checked? there's nothing in the manual about a recharging system, just how to recharge the battery. should i recharge the battery? get a new battery? or have the alternator replaced?? please help!!

Thank you!

Hi there,

The voltage regulator, which is internal of the alternator is faulty. this regulator stops the alternator over charging the battery, if not repaired you will start to blow light globes boil and destroy the battery and possibly damage other electrical equipment like C.D'S and instruments. Get it checked ASAP before any damage is done.
