I do not think you have to replace all the exhaust pipe from engine all the way to the muffler if there is nothing wrong with your exhaust pipes. So in theory I could get that part for 35 bucks and fix it myself?

I am assuming there is some sort of manual I could get?

Does the pipe have to be cut to get the old part off... I am very willing to learn how to do things I just need someone to point me in the right direction.

I rather get it welded by a muffler shop but I would not go back to that mechanic of yours. Sometimes the clamps that is included loosens in the long run. Make sure to buy mesh pipe length with that extra solid pipe in the ends of the mesh because that is where the muffler shop is going to weld it.

Yes, they have to cut the old one out and insert the new mesh pipe to your cut out exhaust pipes. That is why you have to buy 3" to 4" longer than the original size. It is better to be long than short.

correct repair is to replace the front exhaust pipe. the are available aftermarket for about $300 plus gaskets and installation. having a new flex welded in is like putting a patch on. also this pipe has a cat in it as well so any air leaks from a welded flex are not good.
