egr valve location

you dont have to touch the timing at all, over a few drives if there is any problems the knock sensors will pick up on it and will in turn have the computer retard the timing.

id run what was suggested due to the fact OF if you run it with lower grade and the timing retards, the amount of loss in performance and fuel mileage will outweigh the cost and performance of high grade.

I feel a little dumb, but I can not find the EGR VSV on my 97 4cyl Camry. I find, it seems, two VSV units - but neither seem to be EGR VSV. As I stand leaning over drivers side fender looking in to engine compartment - I quickly see and identify two similar units. Not the one in the images I see in haynes, other books, purchase catalogs.
From the image I have - I just can't get the perspective correct. Can you tell me how to clearly locate this EGR VSV?
Look from under vehicle? Left, right? Front? On MY MODEL - where do the hoses connect to? [just to help me ID the right unit.]
It just does not appear to be where the book says it is - OR the appearance of the unit is not even close to the pictures/drawings.
Help me put my finger on this VSV please.

One hose will go to a vacuum source and the other hose will go to the egr valve.

I have looked up at the library where this vsv modulator is, and cannot get a specific location on the item. I have California emissions on this car, and I just replaced the EGR itself, but now it will not idle correctly, and the Toyota dealership told me to replace the VSV... Where is the darn thing??

Hi deepgrooves74, Thank you for the donation. The EGR VSV is located on top of the engine. Item # 7 in the diagram. One of its vacumn hose is attached to the EGR valve.

Hi, I have a 1997 toyota camry and was told by a mechanics that the EGR solenoid needs replacing. He said the thing is at the back of the engine but I'm not sure which one it is. Can anyone tell me which one component in the picture is the EGR solenoid? pictures: hood opened

is the part circled the EGR vacuum solenoid? I found a part from auto parts warehouse, is this the one I want? That is the brake lines you encircled. On your engine picture behind the intake manifold. The big round metal is the EGR (The one on the right side). The one on the left side is a small round black plastic with letters P, R, and Q. That is the EGR vacuum modulator. Follow the letter "Q" rubber hose, the other end is connected to the VSV solenoid for EGR. Also, the rubber hose connected to the EGR (the big round metal) is also connected to the VSV solenoid of EGR. The solenoid is underneath the intake manifold with an electric wire connected in it.. The picture on that auto parts warehouse is the EGR vacuum modulator. I do not know why they call it solenoid.
