Engine Cooling problem
1998 Toyota Camry 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

While driving my car recently, it overheated and cracked the radiator. We replaced the radiator and thermostat. The car ran great for a week and then developed a "bubbling" in the overflow container. Thinking that the head gasket had been damaged as well, we replaced the head gasket. The bubbling in the overflow container isn't as bad as before we replaced the head gasket but it still is bubbling. Any suggestions as to what might be casuing this?

If the motor has normal compression, and the head itself wasnt warped or cracked by the overheating, check the radiator cap, it could be below the systems rating. IE> 16lb cap under pressure may open at 12 or 10 lbs. If so the coolant will boil in the radiator. Caps can be checked with a cooling system pressure tester.

I didn't hear you mention both head gaskets. If the front one has gone, the rear is usually compromised. Also could be crack in head, but suspect rear head gasket. No fun, but an engine machinist friend of mine said they both should be changed at the same time, because the rear one is compromised. This I found personally on my 93 V6.

I have NEVER see a good shop NOT remove BOTH heads, at the very least they need to be checked in a machine shop for cracks and straitghness.
