I recently took my car in to the shop to replace a broken lug stud and patch a flat tire. The car was running great and I had never had any trouble with the ABS or trac/off sensors or systems. When I picked the car up, within 30 seconds of driving it on a flat, smooth road, the ABS light and trac/off light came on and flashed. The ABS light now comes on every time within 30 seconds of me driving and stays on until I turn the car off. The trac/off light also comes on every time within 30 seconds of driving and continues to flash until I turn the car off.
Is it possible that the ABS or wheel speed sensors or the ABS system could have been damaged in the process of removing the brake caliper and rotor while replacing the lug stud? I would love to know any of your thoughts on how this could happen and what I might look for to determine whether the shop is responsible. They claim it is a coincidence.
