1996 Toyota Camry Door locks

The door locks and the power windows were not working. The cause was the wires at the door hinge were short circuited. I taped them and changed 30A fuse located behind the fuse junction box. The locks and the windows worked fine for two days, after which the windows are ok but the locks are behaving weird. When I open the lock with the key only the driver side lock opens. i insert the key in the ignition switch and turn it to Aux mode, all the locks are opened. when I try to lock the doors from the main switch on the driver side or from the individual switches there is a clicking noise but the locks are not locked. It seems that they want to lock but some thing is preventing them to do so. pls help

I had a similar problem with my 1991 Camry.
You may also have some actual open (broken) conductors inside the insulation that you cannot see. These may be preventing a complete circuit. You can check this by pressing the appropriate switch while you or a friend bends the wiring bundle in the door jamb.

Also, you said you "taped" the wires. You did not say you spliced them. Were all the copper conductor strands intact? If they were shorted, they coud be badly damaged and may need splicing. I would be very surprised if only the insulation broke but not the copper, since copper may get brittle when you continue to bend it-as in a door jamb.
