Side mirror replacement

Can I replace only the glass and supporting bracket plate of a side mirror on a 1996 Avalon?
Someone pryed my passenger side mirror off, removing the glass AND the mounting plate that supported the glass. The exterior of the mirror and the mechanical motorized parts inside are fine. If I purchase a new side mirror, is there a way to detach that glass & supporting plate off the replacement mirror assembly, and then just somehow attach it to the existing passenger mirror? It looks like the bracket just 'snaps' onto a round pivot bracket. Does it unsnap and resnap on easily? Then I wouldn't have to repaint the replacement mirror.

a whole mirror? you mean replace the whole mirror? a replacement mirror unpainted ican be found online for around $60 and a painted one is around $200 plus!!!! If possible, I would like to transfer the mirror + supporting plate rather spend an additional $140. Somehow it unsnaps, since the thief did it . . . I just need to know if the guts or parts can be transfered and or resnapped into the existing painted mirror. Is it possible?

i also own a bodyshop and that's how its listed in the catalog and how they get changed. did you ever think the person popped the whole thing out just because they wanted the glass???

OK . .
1. Fact: Somehow the mirror bracket plate can be unsnapped.

2. How is it unsnapped? Using just a gentle straight pull on each side?

3. Resnapping on the good mirror appears to just be the opposite . . a firm straight push back on aligning the little positioning tabs . . correct?

I'm just looking for comfirmation about questions #2 and #3 from anyone that has done it.

I know it's been a long time since this post was made, but it is possible to just replace the guts of some mirrors. I am in the process of doing this on my 02 Avalon.

Hi,

Looks like the only thing available is the assembly or just the glass. If you have an adjustable mirror the your only option that I found was to replace the complete assembly. However, if you get a used mirror that has some damage but has the internal parts still working then you can combine them and make one good mirror. However, there are no instructions for this because they were not intended to be taken apart, so you will have to figure that out on your own.
