1998 Toyota Avalon CANNOT MOVE SHIFT LEVER OUT OF PARK

1998 Toyota Avalon 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 116000 miles

When I start my engine and try to move the shift lever, it will not move. I have depressed the button
which is designed for this problem and still cannot get the shift llever out of park.
Can yhou help me?

The problem here is the shift interlock system is malfunctioning -the problem could be the shift lock solenoid might not be engaging.
