1996 Toyota Avalon Check engine light

Ok you need to find a code reader that will read asian cars. It must say it is obd 2 US and Asian compatable. Now if click on the link below that I have it will take you to a site where you can look at scanners. If you need any further help let me know. It will probable be on of the O2 sensors that is causing you light to come on but won't know for sure till we have the code. Let me know where this goes ok.

I have looked at my ports for diagnosis. I have one under the driver's side dash that is round and has "diagnosis" stamped on the cover. I have another one on the passenger's side under the hood that has"diagnosis" on it. From what I can see none of the common ODBII readers will fit my diagnostic ports so what kind of reader do I need?

You are not looking at the right connector you need to find the 16 pin connector that the obd 2 scanners have. It is under the steering column area near or around the hood release handle. Once you find it you just need to find a scanner that is OBD 2 and asian compatable like I have already said. Let me know how it goes.

OK, I found the correct ODBII port it was under a panel cover. The code came back PO305 Cylinder 5 misfire. I suspect a cracked wire or plug. Yesterday the light went out on its own and I haven't had any more shuddering. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Boyd

You are probable correct about it being a plug or wire. If it has been a long time sence you replaced the plugs I would probably do all of them. On the other hand glad you found you diagnostic port.
