1996 Toyota Avalon Battery Issues

Hello,

My name is Judith Andrews and I drive a 1996 Toyota Avalon and I recently had the battery replaced and suddenly in the middle of driving yesterday my car radio and clock turned off an no longer work. However my battery is fine, the lights work and car starts. What could the problem be?

Hi Judith, Thank you for the donation. Most likey you have a blown fuse. The clock and radio shares the same fuse. It is Fuse # 8 in the diagram shown, on driver's side under the instrument panel. However this fuse would affect the interlock system which would not allow you to shift out of PARK. Fuse # 18 . Thsi fuse is for the radio, clock, interior lights, courtesy lights, personal lights

Thank you Ken. So it cant be fuse 8 because I am able to drive around freely and move out of park. So it must be fuse 18? Would that still be true if I am able to see my brake, seat belt lights etc etc

It would be best to check all fuses since you are at it.

It is possible to be fuse # 8 as the interlock system has different circuits and do you have problems with the courtesy lights?

Another possibility is loose wire connectors and that would be rather difficult to diagnose without unplugging the fuse box, wire connectors etc.
