95 toyota 4runner sr5 3.0, 6 cyl

i have a part thats leaking oil. Its above the oil pan on the drivers side. Its round, about an inch and a half thick, 3 to 4 inches in diameter. It looks like a large tuna can almost, with a boths head in the middle. It has lines running to where the engine thermostat is. What is this? I have been told it may be an oil cooler, however I cannot find one that looks like this most are radiator type. I dont want to remove it until i know what im dealing with, and if it has gaskets that can be replace or if the whole whatever it is has to be replaced. I dont know what to search for.

Based on the description you provided, it sounds like the part you are referring to is the engine oil filter cooler assembly. The engine oil filter cooler is responsible for cooling the engine oil before it circulates back into the engine. It is a common component found in many vehicles, including the 1995 Toyota 4Runner with the 3.0L V6 engine.

The oil cooler you described typically has coolant lines connected to it, which help in cooling the engine oil. It is usually located near the oil filter and the engine thermostat housing. The purpose of the oil cooler is to keep the engine oil at an optimal operating temperature to ensure proper lubrication and longevity of the engine.

If this oil cooler is leaking oil, it may be due to a faulty gasket or seal within the cooler assembly. In many cases, the gaskets or seals can be replaced separately without needing to replace the entire cooler assembly. Here is the instructions on how to change it out. Check out the images (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
