Engine Performance problem
1994 Toyota 4Runner 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 139K miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
2 months ago I let my 4Runner sit on empty the whole night, the next morning I drove it to the store to put gas in it (drove fine to the store) then after leaving the store it started sputtering badly...I suspected that sediment made its way into the filter so I put it in the shop...got it out of the shop today (I had them put front and rear fuel lines in as well as a new filter) the technician said the fuel sending unit looked alright when the tank was dropped and on the test drive (post repair) the car drove fine.

When I left the mechanic shop the car was empty and had been sitting for 4 days waiting for me to pick it up. The car ran fine to the gas station, Once I left the shop and go to the gas station and got gas, the darn thing started sputtering again!!!!

Any ideas? Could it be the fuel pump, sending unit? What are symptoms of these two going out and might it be bad fuel? Should I change my fuel filter again...despite this new one being on there for only 5 days?

I did what a friend suggested to eliminate it possibly being a plug misfire by covering the tailpipe with the palm of my hand and feeling for bursts of exhaust...I felt nothing.

PLEASE HELP
Thank you very much

Your best bet is get the fuel pressure check to rule out the fuel pump -
