When I start my 4runner it is squirting out transmission fluid from some type of valve atop of the transmission. After a few miles the A/t oil temp light comes on, I have to pull over and let it cool. I keep the car running but in parking gear ant eventually the light goes out but comes back on after a few more miles.

Hi chinon,

Check if the ATF had been overfilled. I guess the oil is squirting out of the overflow valve.

I know its been years since a reply but just incase someone else has this proplem I thought it would be a good idea. I too had this problem with my 94 4Runner and it took me a few month to figure it out. Did you check your A/T fluid and it was a little low so you added a little more? Thats what I was doing also. Check your transfer case fluid level. I am 99.9% sure that when you, you will find that it will be up to 3/4 of quart too full. The A/T and the transfer case share the same fluid and for some reason, which Im still trying to figure out how and why, the transfer case is getting too much sent to it. I have checked the lines and none are clog so it just might remain a mystery.

If that is the case, you have a leak between the transmission and transfer case. In between there is a seal that would allow fluid from the trans to get to the transfer gear.
