Timing codes p0014 and p0017

Did you flush the oil system of all dirt and debris? This is the most common issue for these codes along with the timing marks being incorrect.

I would suspect the solenoids could be the issue but needs to be confirmed. They get sludged up internally and will not allow oil flow for the timing adjustment.

Do you have a scan tool that can activate the solenoids so you can verify the timing change? If the ECM does not see the timing change, this is the resulting codes that will be set.

Cleaned oil and installed new cam solenoids, drive a bit better but codes came back up. P00014 and p00017 Keeps telling me the exhaust cam is too advanced . And no in sync with crank. I have a feeling i need to go back into my engine and check timing again. I’ve set the timing more than twice now. Should I just replace the chain and sprockets ? I have a feeling it’s jumping . Idle is not rough but it’s beginning to shake a bit more. Spending gas like crazy.

Okay, did you replace the chain at any time?

You do not just adjust the timing of the chain. It will require replacing the chain, guides and the tension er.

No, I didn’t replace it. it was removed to do a valve job on the head.

Hello . I’m back so I removed the timing cover again . Before I did anything I rotated my engine by hand . Went to find TDC and all my marks align at 12 o'clock. Now again I was recently getting codes P0014 and P0017. Could it be the actual phaser on my exhaust cam that could be getting stuck ?

Yes, it can. Oil contamination is a common cause of this. Flushing the oil system with a pressurized cleaning agent is recommended before replacing the solenoid and phaser. You could contaminate the replacement parts if you do not flush the system.

I did flush engine and replaced solenoids . Timing marks lined up, when I turn the engine. my last guess is phaser. Do you recommend me removing phaser and taking it a part to check ?

How did you flush it? There is no additive for this.

The oil and filter must be drained. There is a machine that connects to the oil filter housing and the drain plug. It forces a cleaning agent through all the passages to get the dirt and debris out.

Your additive cannot do this.

I just drained oil . I already purchased phaser and new chain tensioner. Since I see the timing all aligning . I’m just concerned that chain isn’t jumping a tooth but phaser is getting stuck . Exhaust cam saying is too advanced.

I would have the system flushed correctly and then hope the solenoid and actuators are still good.
