Timing Belt, Water Pump and Tensioner Pulley, is the engine an interference engine?

All Honda engines are interference engines except the 3.0L and the 3.6L V6 engines.

As far as the timing belt is concerned, it should be replaced if it hasn't been at this point. The water pump, in most cases, is replaced at the same time simply to eliminate the need to take things apart again. The water pump is driven by the timing belt on this engine.

As far as directions are concerned, let me know what you are looking to do, and I'll be happy to get you the directions. Also, note that the tensioners should be replaced at the same time as well. The idea behind the pump and tensioners is preventative maintenance. First, you don't want a tensioner to fail and allow the belt to jump time (Interference engine) and you don't want to have to remove the belt again to replace the water pump.

Just to show you why the pump is replaced, I attached a pic below. Note step 1.

Hi Joe, thanks for your reply. I have ordered a kit with all 3 items and would like to replace the timing belt, water pump and tensioner. Please provide the replacement steps and a diagram if possible.

The water pump is in the upper post. As far as the tensioner and the belt, I attached the directions below. Note: the last seven pictures are for the timing belt tensioner. I cut out parts because they are already listed in the belt replacement directions. For example, step 1 indicated to remove the timing belt. LOL

I'm here to help if you need it. Also, before starting or trying to start the engine, rotate the engine a few times to make sure nothing is hitting internally or preventing you from turning the crankshaft. Remove the spark plugs to do this so the engine turns freely.

Also, I forgot to mention, the timing belt was changed at 75,000 miles 10 years ago. Now the vehicle has 125000 miles, i.e another 50,000 miles only. Should I change the belt this early?

If it was me, I would likely wait a bit longer. However, you may want to inspect it for wear. Chances are it is fine.
