after replacing timing chain it will not go over 2500 rpm's

the timing chain was replaced and now anything over 2500 rpm's it starts sputtering bad it wont go over sixty to seventy mph and cuts out at 2500 rpm's. we have checked the timing and it is good and the check engine light wont go off.
