I went to get my car checked out because the reduce engine power light came on. I ended up with a bill over $1,386.98 and they still did not fix the problem. My engine light is still on and before I left the shop they suggested more work to be done on the car that would cost over $659.00 that would be the cost part of the throttle body part not including labor cost. Is it safe to drive my car with a bad or worn out throttle body?

If you have a bad throttle body then it will go back into reduced performance mode I would not say that is really safe if your in traffic. Would not accept paying all that money and it is still not fixed. Sounds like there fishing with dynamite. I would contact the bureau of automotive repair and tell them what happened.

Pending on where you buy a throttle body the price i come up with from pro demand is around $460.00 supplied and fitted. i would however get a second opinion on the viability of the throttle body as a precaution. i would be probable be thinking that the throttle position sensor is at fault which appears to require the replacement of the throttle body. With a faulty TPS symptoms can include,
An unexplained bucking and jerking in the vehicle.
Sudden idle surges.
Sudden engine stalling without any apparent reason.
Hesitation while accelerating.
Sudden surges in speed while driving on the highway.
Intermittently flashing of check engine light for no apparent reason.
