Last week an engine light came on, when I took it to the garage they said it was the catalytic converter which I had fixed. I took it for its service and mot yesterday. They said when they'd taken it out for the initial test drive it was responding as it should and they had to push the throttle down a lot to get it to respond. They then apparently did the service and mot and then cleared all the codes. When they took it out again he said it was like a different car and working normally. He told me to just be aware there could be something wrong with the throttle. I'm just confused, what codes did they clear?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Honestly, there is no way for me to know. Did they provide you with a receipt that indicated what diagnostic trouble codes were found? If you have that, I would know what they are related to.

Is the vehicle running properly for you now and the engine light staying off?

Let me know,

Joe

Hello thank you for your reply. They said there was a fault code on it last week because the emissions we're all wrong because of the catalytic converter being broken. Could it have gone into 'limp home mode'? They didn't mention any fault codes this week they just said they'd cleared all the codes, what do they mean? They said the throttle needed to be pressed down a long way to respond. I really hadn't noticed it, apart from on the day I was taking it in when the engine light was on and to be honest that was only that I thought it would go further down a slight slope without me pressing the accelerator! I'm really confused and we're supposed to be going away next week, I'm worried I'll break down somewhere or something bad will happen.

PS the engine light is off and it seems to be running right. I just heard that it does that for 100 miles before it shows any problems. Is that right?

Welcome back:

Honestly, what they said makes sense. Especially if it is running normally now, I wouldn't be too concerned. As far as the 100 miles, 38 years in the business and I never heard of such a thing. Drive it as much as you can before going away. If the light stays off and it runs fine, I'm sure you will be okay.

If you do have trouble on the trip or when you reach your destination, I'm always here. Let me know and I'll do my best to help.

Take care and enjoy the trip. Don't worry. If something is going to happen, it will before you leave.
