Thermostat removal

The nut should come off without the stud being removed with it.

Yes. But once both nuts are removed, the pipe can move out of the way. Underneath that are another set of nuts that are attached to a screw that comes off together. I removed one (left side) but the more bottom one I’m having trouble finding the angle let alone fitting a socket/wrench in there.

Okay, I understand. If there is another bracket on top of the nut, then you need a thin open-end wrench to hold the inner nut while you release the outer nut.

Yes, it is tight. I go in from the left front wheel well to access the housing.

I will try to see if removing the wheel helps. I got enough room in the engine bay but the bolt is pointing downwards at a 45 degree ish angle to the air compressor unit. I might just need to remove the compressor to have the clearance.

This remaining nut is underneath the assembly for the heater pipe. This nut holds the thermostat assembly in place. 3 bolts hold it. 2 above the 3 hold the heater pipe on top of the already existing bolts. Heater pipe is removed. All I need is to remove the remaining nut holding the thermostat in place.

Okay, good deal. Did you get it from the left wheel well?

No, there wasn’t enough clearance. We loosen the air compressor and that gave us enough clearance to fit a 10mm deep socket. We have now changed the thermostat!
