The meter that reads miles to empty is not updating

This is monitored by the navigation module, is there anything else that is not working? I would check all operations of the navigation to see if everything works. Also, let's check the fuses for system #36, 29 and 18 in the fuse panel on the left end of the dash. here is a guide to help and the fuse location in the diagrams below. If the fuses are okay a CAN scan will help you confirm the failure of the Nav module.

Apparently it does it off and on.

This is typical when the navigation module is going out. Did you do the CAN scan?

It started back working once we filled up the gas, I'm go to my friend's house even if it's working the can scan will still show, correct?

It should yes, but some intermittent problems will not show up. Please let me know.
