The oil seal between the engine and transmission is leaking?

There has been a dripping oil leak at the engine rear main bearing oil seal for a long time. I am not located in the USA. To fix the leak, I may need to remove the transmission assembly. Could you give me a list of disassembly steps to replace the rear crankshaft oil seal and then reassemble? I would also like to know if it would be advisable to change the filter and oil in the transmission at the same time.

Hi,

As far as servicing the transmission, it may be easier to do it when everything is together. However, you can certainly do it when it is removed.

The rear main oil seal isn't difficult to replace once you have the transmission, torque converter, and flex plate removed. If you look below, I attached the directions.

Are you sure you have to remove the engine? About the transmission (6T70) it seems that the filter is inside the transmission and there is no oil pan. VIN 2GNFLNE54C6340967.

No, you don't remove the engine. However, to access the seal, the transmission and engine need to be separated.

I can of course disassemble without help. However, it would be nice to have help in the form of advice on the sequence of operations when removing the transmission.

Hi,

I will do my best to help if you have questions. Please understand, this is a big job. Also, doing it without a rack to lift the vehicle will make it a bit more difficult.

As far as special notes are concerned, you will need an engine support mount to hold the engine in position while you do the work. Also, the front suspension frame will need lowered.

I attached the directions below for the removal and replacement of the transmission. Note that the directions are if you are replacing it. That isn't the case, but these are the only directions in my manual that have the procedure.

I am not in the United States. Here, where I am, there are no such cars. However, there are service stations with elevators where other cars are serviced. I am not going to do the repairs myself. However, the handyman who will be doing the disassembly and reassembly will be helped by the information you gave me. Thank you very much.
