Testing Crankshaft position sensor

Can't be done Two-wire sensors are a coil of wire wrapped around a magnet. You can measure the resistance of that coil with an ohm meter. Typically, 250 to around 800 ohms is common. Yours is a three-wire sensor. That means there is a pile of circuitry in it that amplifies the signal coming from the coil. There is no way to test a three-wire sensor other than to look at the signal voltage with an oscilloscope, and that is not practical. The Engine Computer will set a diagnostic fault code if the signal is missing, but sometimes that only occurs while a stalled engine is coasting to a stop. That code may not set just from cranking the engine. You can also use a scanner to look at live data. The sensor should be listed with some indication to tell you if the signal is showing up.
