Temperature sensor not working after cluster swap?

The needle went from cold to hot in a matter of seconds first start in the morning. New Temperature sensor/coolant sensor installed, temperature gauge still not working. An instrument cluster was installed. The temperature gauge is still not working and now after the swap, the battery gauge is not working properly. The battery needle is almost touching the L. I hope nothing is draining the battery. All other gauges are working fine. Is it possible the swap is not compatible? I don't believe I have the correct instrument cluster. Are instrument clusters interchangeable with different year models? Thanks in advance.

Did the gauges work before the swap? If so, then you are right, the wrong or defective cluster was installed. Here are the instructions on how to replace the cluster in the images below in case you need them. Also, check the electrical connectors at the rear of the cluster.

To answer your question Ken, all the gauges worked before the cluster swap except for the temperature gauge. The temperature/coolant sensor was installed, still the temperature gauge did not work. That's when the cluster swap was done. But the temperature gauge is still not working properly even after the cluster swap. Will keep you informed and thanks for your reply.
