temperature sending unit

First of all, I have replaced the temperature sending unit on the side of the block which now has two wires instead of one. I have voltage to the green wire. what should I do now? nothing works, but the temperature gauge pegs straight to hot when starting it will start but doesn't come on.

Hi,

It should have been a two-wire sensor from the factory. (See pic below) As far as the issue, it sounds like it's shorted to ground,

At the connector, there should be a yellow wire (5v reference) and a black wire which is ground.

Disconnect the sensor and with the key on, check to see if the yellow wire does have 5v. Turn the key off and check the black wire for continuity to ground.

If they both check good, confirm the connector isn't damaged. For example, the pins touching.

I will watch for your reply. Note: The temperature sensor for the gauge is located on the intake manifold. See pic below. Let me know if that is what was replaced.
