TC light on and AWD malfunction alert

My tc light is always on and I have AWD malfunction. I took the car to the dealer they said it is the pressure switch(p1889). I wish to know if there may be other causes and?
And I want to know what this switch does and what happens if I don't replace it

it allows the torque converter to lock and help your AWD function your fuel mileage will suffer.
