Oil sump removal

Hi there,

The only thing that will fall out is the engine oil if you don't drain it first! Get the oil hot and let it drain over night so it wont be dripping on you with the sump off.

Ok! thanks for your prompt response, I'll try that in the weekend and hopefully a good clean and a new filter will do the trick!

Hi again, so, I have removed all of the bolts holding the sump to the engine block, but will it move? no... it will not! Am I missing something here? I had thought that prying with a screwdriver would have popped the seals but it is not going anywhere...

Any ideas?

If all the bolts are removed and it is still stuck, it could be a chemically bonded sump, It will not have a conventional gasket, but it is sealed with a very strong sealant, You have to knock a small wedge in to start to break the seal, when it starts to give a little move along and knock in another wedge, there are special "splitting chisels" used i made my own as these sumps are becoming more frequent. see how you get on if in doubt re post.

Night time now, so I'll hit it in the morning.

I have scraped a little of the gasket away, it's a kind of brick colored powder... hopefully it's not some kind of Super Sealant as I have to be back on the road on monday!
