1999 Suzuki Forenza Won't start can't shift shifter stuck i

This afternoon the car was driving fine. I stopped and shifted into reverse and the car kept rolling forwar das if in neutral. The engine was still on and everything else was operating fine. When the applied brakes and stopped the forward roll the car would not go in reverse although shifter showed the transmission was in reverse. I turned car off thinking the ignition computer or some other computerized system had just gone haywire and needed to auto reset. No luck Car now will not start. I do hear a suttle hum when I turn the ignition. Shifter stuck in park. Car rolls forward and backwards withouth any problem although in OPark. What gives! Thanks George
